Alison's lecture

Louise Bourgeois: Insomnia drawings

She was known for her sculptural works in the last 1940's. She commonly used the woman figure as a focus and expressed this through a number of different works such as "Paddle woman" which used two wooden spoons in the shape of a women. She also created another piece called Spider which was a huge structural spider around a cage.

Insomnia drawings are piece of art created from people who suffer from insomnia. Insomnia is a condition which makes people struggle to get any sleep for days of even weeks. The artists used this as a method to try and help her sleep and get tired. She produced 220 of these drawings and most are organised doodles from her unconcience. This is a sense suggests that there is another unconscience state of art used as a method.
